Chicago Sky adds guard Kate Martin on a developmental contract

The Chicago Sky signed guard Kate Martin to a developmental contract before the WNBA break for the FIBA World Cup. Sky head coach Tyler Marsh confirmed the addition, noting that Martin’s toughness and selfless approach fit the team’s identity despite her role as a developmental player. Martin was originally the No. 18 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Las Vegas Aces before joining the Golden State Valkyries via the 2025 expansion draft. She spent part of the season with the Los Angeles Sparks, appearing in 17 games and averaging 2.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in limited minutes. The Sky, who have already been eliminated from playoff contention, return to action on September 17 against the Washington Mystics. Marsh stated he expects Martin to remain with the organization because he believes she belongs in the league.
