Chicago Sky signs Kate Martin to a developmental contract

The Chicago Sky signed guard Kate Martin to a developmental contract on Wednesday. The agreement allows the team to evaluate Martin for the final four games of the WNBA season following the FIBA World Cup break, which concludes September 17. Martin enters the roster after playing for three different teams in three seasons, most recently appearing in 17 games for the Los Angeles Sparks earlier this year. Chicago currently occupies a position outside the playoff race and ranks 12th in offensive efficiency. Under league rules, developmental contracts do not count against the salary cap and allow teams to carry up to two such players beyond the standard 12-player roster. Martin remains eligible to play in up to 12 games before the team must decide whether to convert her deal into a standard contract.
