Chiefs consider trading Justin Fields amid rookie quarterback emergence

Summary

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Justin Fields, a 2026 offseason acquisition from the New York Jets, is reportedly a trade candidate as the team approaches roster cuts. Fields is vying for the backup role behind Patrick Mahomes during training camp and preseason. The presence of rookie Garrett Nussmeier has sparked discussions about whether to keep Fields or trade him to open a roster spot for another player. Sports Illustrated's Joshua Schulman suggests that while trading Fields could be a consideration, it may not be likely given his experience compared to Nussmeier. The Chiefs are weighing their options as they finalize their 53-man roster.
