Chiefs focus on defensive rebuild for Mahomes' next chapter

The Kansas City Chiefs are executing a defensive rebuild aimed at supporting quarterback Patrick Mahomes, according to NFL analyst Ian Rapoport. This strategy includes utilizing three early draft picks in 2026, selecting cornerback Mansoor Delane sixth overall. Rapoport emphasized that this overhaul goes beyond the secondary, aiming to create a new identity and bolster the defensive unit after a disappointing 6-11 season in 2025. Rapoport believes that if these young talents, including Peter Woods and Mason Thomas, can develop quickly, it will reduce pressure on Mahomes and strengthen the roster moving forward. The Chiefs also added running back Kenneth Walker III to enhance their offensive capabilities.
