Chris Lazary joins Michigan hockey as associate head coach

Chris Lazary has joined the University of Michigan hockey program as an associate coach. Lazary transitions to Ann Arbor after a tenure with the Saginaw Spirit, where he secured a Memorial Cup championship in 2024 and maintained a career record of 249-171-16-12 in the Ontario Hockey League. Michigan head coach Brandon Naurato selected Lazary to join assistant coaches Matthew Deschamps and Kevin Reiter to bolster the staff. During his time in Saginaw, Lazary oversaw the development of 18 NHL draft picks, including Cole Perfetti and Zayne Parekh. Michigan begins its 2026-27 campaign against Bowling Green on October 2 at Yost Ice Arena. The program also has an outdoor contest scheduled against Western Michigan at Waldo Stadium on January 30.
