Christian Gonzalez signs four-year extension with the New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have signed cornerback Christian Gonzalez to a four-year contract extension worth $135 million. The deal includes $102 million in guaranteed money, making Gonzalez the highest-paid player at his position in NFL history. He surpassed the $33 million annual mark set by Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon earlier this offseason. Gonzalez, who earned Pro Bowl honors last season, recorded 69 tackles and 10 pass deflections over 14 regular-season games. He also tallied an interception during the AFC Championship against the Denver Broncos to help the team reach the Super Bowl. The defender will finish the final year of his current rookie contract before the new agreement takes effect in 2027. New England opens its season this Wednesday in a rematch against Seattle.
