Manchester United attempted to sign forward Christopher Nkunku from AC Milan during the recent summer transfer window. The Premier League side sought to add attacking depth for their 2026/27 Champions League campaign, but the player turned down approaches from both Manchester United and Newcastle United. Nkunku instead secured a season-long loan move back to RB Leipzig, the club he left in 2023. RB Leipzig managing director Marcel Schäfer confirmed the player prioritized a return to the Red Bull Arena over remaining in England. Nkunku previously struggled to establish himself at Chelsea following a 2023 transfer and saw limited opportunities at AC Milan under Ruben Amorim. RB Leipzig holds an option to purchase the forward for €28 million at the conclusion of the loan deal.
