Cincinnati Reds reliever Tony Santillan had surgery on September 24 to remove a bone spur from his left hip. The surgery is seen as a positive step for his recovery and long-term outlook. Santillan, who has spent time on the injured list this season due to oblique and hip injuries, had a 6.42 ERA in 44 appearances this year. Manager Terry Francona stated that Santillan will be on crutches for about a month during his recovery.
