Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud declined to address his contract status during media availability ahead of the 2026 season opener. Stroud stated his focus remains entirely on football and directed inquiries regarding negotiations to his agent, David Mulugheta. The quarterback enters the season following a 2025 campaign that included a Wild Card victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers and a Divisional Round loss to the New England Patriots. The Houston roster has seen several changes, including the addition of running back David Montgomery and the acquisition of wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to mitigate the injury to Jayden Higgins. With the team returning a core group expected to contend for an AFC Championship, Stroud aims to improve upon last year's playoff performance during his upcoming campaign.
