Cleveland Cavaliers acquire Peyton Watson from Denver Nuggets in sign-and-trade

The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired forward Peyton Watson from the Denver Nuggets as part of a sign-and-trade deal. As part of the arrangement, Cleveland sent Max Strus to the Los Angeles Clippers, along with a 2031 unprotected first-round pick and a 2032 second-round pick to Denver. Watson agreed to a four-year, $88 million contract extension with the Cavaliers. He joins a starting lineup that includes James Harden, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. The move follows a sweep of the Cavaliers by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green noted the Nuggets secured a valuable future draft asset while the Cavaliers attempt to push for a title within their current championship window.
