Coco Gauff advances to third round of the US Open

Coco Gauff defeated Paula Badosa 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in the second round of the US Open on Friday. Playing on Arthur Ashe Court, the American fourth seed managed two sets to move past the world No 87 after a competitive match that featured multiple breaks of serve. Badosa had previously held a positive record against Gauff, but the American overcame nerves and a partisan crowd to secure the result. Elsewhere at the tournament, Mirra Andreeva moved into the third round following a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Eva Lys. World No 2 Elena Rybakina also reached the next stage, recording a 6-2, 6-4 win against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in just over an hour. Gauff is now scheduled to face Cristina Bucsa in the next round of the tournament.
