"Remember back before Elimination Chamber last year when The Rock did a whole bit about wanting Cody Rhodes’ soul before John Cena turned heel and it led to a the WrestleMania main event “The Great One” ended up not even being involved with? Even at that time, Rocky was talking like his entire story with Rhodes would never culminate in a match between the two. In a new interview with Ariel Helwani, Rhodes said something similar: Cody Rhodes is asked if he needs to finish the story with The Rock before he retires.#HelwaniShow pic.twitter.com/WQQ8I7MUr1 — Jed I. Goodman © (@jedigoodman) June 24, 2026 “Hmm. Dwayne Johnson has become a bit of a fixture in my career and in my life. Not just for his flag-in-the-sand moment that was WrestleMania and the emergence of one of the better characters that we only saw a little of, The Final Boss. I don’t want to give it an absolute that we have to settle that, but I think it’s an unfinished story, which probably means there are two unfinished stories out there, and they don’t always get finished.” “Finishing the story” could end up looking like Rhodes following in The Rock’s footsteps and taking off for Hollywood in a few years, and QB1 recognizes as much here. But he does say the more appealing story, at least to pro wrestling fan, is one that plays out in a WWE ring. It just doesn’t sound likely that’s ever going to happen. Sad about it?
