College quarterbacks show mixed results during opening week of season

College football programs saw a range of performances from transfer and first-year starting quarterbacks during the opening week of the season. Darian Mensah led Miami to a 45-6 win over Stanford, while Josh Hoover directed Indiana to a 52-16 victory against North Texas. Alabama's Keelon Russell and Tennessee's Faizon Brandon recorded strong debuts for their respective teams in wins over East Carolina and Furman. Conversely, Drew Mestemaker struggled for Oklahoma State in a 24-10 loss to Tulsa, extending the school's losing streak to 21 games. DJ Lagway also fell in his debut as Baylor lost to Auburn 17-16 after a failed two-point conversion attempt.
