Colorado Avalanche hire Taylor Chorney to player development staff

The Colorado Avalanche have added former NHL defenseman Taylor Chorney to the team's player development staff. Chorney will work in a department led by director of player development Brian Willsie. A veteran of 10 NHL seasons, Chorney appeared in 166 regular-season games between 2008 and 2018 for five different clubs, including the Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, and Columbus Blue Jackets. The 39-year-old was originally a second-round draft pick by the Oilers in 2005. Following his NHL career, Chorney played professional hockey in Switzerland for HC Lugano and in Austria for EC Salzburg before announcing his retirement. His appointment comes as the Avalanche prepare for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
