Colorado Avalanche pursued T.J. Hughes throughout his final college season

The Colorado Avalanche spent the majority of last season recruiting undrafted forward T.J. Hughes to join the organization. Front office personnel, including Kevin McDonald, Andrew Cogliano, and Brian Willsie, conducted multiple meetings and video sessions to integrate Hughes into the team's style of play. The 24-year-old forward signed a one-year, entry-level contract and gained professional experience during a playoff run with the AHL's Colorado Eagles. Hughes has since moved to Denver and participated in team captain skates. He currently competes for a roster spot in the top nine or top six forward groups. The Avalanche continue their preparation for the regular season with an upcoming rookie tournament in San Jose before opening the campaign at Ball Arena on Sept. 30.
