Colorado defeats Georgia Tech 14-13 to secure Big 12 win

Colorado opened its football season Thursday with a 14-13 victory over Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Quarterback Julian Lewis threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Williams with 42 seconds remaining in the game to provide the deciding points. Georgia Tech responded by advancing into field goal range, but Colorado defensive back Boo Carter blocked a 45-yard attempt by kicker Aidan Birr as time expired. This result provides the Big 12 with its first nonconference victory over a Power Four opponent this season, following an earlier loss by TCU to North Carolina. Elsewhere on Thursday, Big 12 members Utah and UCF secured lopsided wins against FCS opponents Idaho and Bethune-Cookman, respectively. The conference is scheduled to play 13 additional nonconference games against Power Four opponents over the coming weeks.
