Colorado football opens season with 14-13 victory over Georgia Tech

The Colorado Buffaloes began their 2026 season Thursday with a 14-13 victory against Georgia Tech at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta. Trailing by six points late in the fourth quarter, freshman quarterback Julian Lewis connected with tight end Charlie Williams for a 20-yard touchdown pass with 37 seconds remaining to secure the lead. Georgia Tech mounted a final drive to reach field-goal range, but Colorado defensive back Boo Carter blocked a 45-yard attempt by Aidan Birr as time expired. The Buffaloes finished the night with 183 rushing yards while limiting the Yellow Jackets to 51. Head coach Deion Sanders praised his team's resilience following a game that featured special teams miscues and a mid-game challenge to the offensive unit. Colorado is scheduled to host Weber State on September 12.
