Colorado Rapids acquire Morgan Whittaker from Middlesbrough for club-record fee

The Colorado Rapids signed forward Morgan Whittaker from EFL Championship club Middlesbrough for a franchise-record $10.7 million. The 25-year-old former England Under-20s player joins the MLS side as a Designated Player through the 2029/30 season, with a club option for an additional year. Head coach Matt Wells identified Whittaker as a foundational attacking piece to aid the team's pursuit of a playoff berth. This transaction follows a busy summer of roster movement for Colorado, including the sale of Rafael Navarro to St. Louis City and the transfer of defender Lucas Herrington to Hull City. The club also recently added Sayed Abu Farkhi, Loïc Williams, and Ibrahim Sadiq to the squad. Whittaker is expected to join the team immediately, ahead of their upcoming match against the Columbus Crew.
