Colton Cowser preserves Orioles victory with game-ending home run robbery

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Colton Cowser secured a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on September 1, 2026, by catching a potential game-tying home run at the wall. With the Orioles leading by one run in the bottom of the ninth inning and a runner on second base, Rockies batter Jake McCarthy hit a drive to deep center field. According to OptaSTATS, the ball had an estimated distance of 425 feet, making it the longest distance for a game-ending home run robbery in the MLB wild card era since 1995. Cowser tracked the ball and jumped against the outfield wall to make the catch, ending the contest. The defensive play prevented a two-run home run that would have resulted in a loss for the Orioles during their pursuit of a postseason spot in the American League.
