Colts could trade Anthony Richardson to Buccaneers amid QB competition

Summary

The Indianapolis Colts are considering trading quarterback Anthony Richardson, who remains in a competition for the backup role behind Daniel Jones. Richardson, a former first-round pick, requested a trade earlier in the offseason and has not withdrawn it. Recent reports indicate he has been demoted to third-string during training camp, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers identified as a possible destination for Richardson in exchange for a conditional 2027 sixth-round pick. He is set to start the Colts' first preseason game against the New England Patriots, while Riley Leonard is expected to play the second half. Coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Daniel Jones will not participate in preseason games to ensure his health for the regular season.
