Columbia and Christian Brothers Academy win football openers

Columbia opened its regular season with a 48-27 victory over Queensbury on Friday night. The win proved meaningful for Columbia, which had been eliminated from the playoffs by Queensbury in consecutive years. Desmond White accounted for three touchdowns, including a punt return, a kickoff return, and an interception return. Quarterback Tyler Connolly added passing and rushing touchdowns to balance the effort, while Queensbury quarterback Tyler Dorvee left the game with an injury in the first quarter. In other action, Christian Brothers Academy earned a 62-24 win against Archbishop Stepinac. Quarterback Matt Kowalski threw for six touchdowns and rushed for another in his first varsity start. The team will face Saratoga Springs in the upcoming week.
