Elvis Merzlikins of the Columbus Blue Jackets is out indefinitely following shoulder surgery on August 17. The decision for surgery came after he experienced discomfort during offseason training. General manager Don Waddell stated Merzlikins will be reevaluated in a few weeks to determine a timeline for his return. Merzlikins, 32, has one year left on a five-year contract with a cap hit of $5.4 million. Jet Greaves is expected to take on a more prominent role as the team's goalie, having recently signed a three-year contract extension.
