Columbus Crew 2 fires head coach Federico Higuaín after referee incident

Columbus Crew 2 has terminated the contract of head coach Federico Higuaín following an incident with a female referee that occurred after a match on August 23. After the match against Huntsville City FC, Higuaín reportedly squeezed the referee's hand and remarked that soccer was a man's game. This led to a suspension and increased scrutiny from the Professional Soccer Referees Association regarding the club's disciplinary actions. General manager Issa Tall stated the dismissal was in the best interests of the club and its staff, while the Crew 2 technical team will manage responsibilities as the search for a new head coach begins ahead of the MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs.
