Connected ball technology introduced in top-flight soccer officiating

The RFEF confirmed that connected ball technology will be integrated with VAR and semi-automated offside technology at the start of the season in the First Division. This system includes a sensor in the ball that captures contact with millisecond precision, aiming to improve accuracy and fairness in refereeing decisions. It will address contentious plays such as marginal offside calls, handball detection in the penalty area, and contested last touches. The RFEF has not announced if this technology will be extended to other divisions in the future.
