Conrad Thompson criticizes Roman Reigns during latest podcast episode

Photo by Rich Freeda/WWE via Getty Images | WWE via Getty Images Conrad Thompson made headlines in early August by calling Roman Reigns “the most overrated main eventer in WWE history.” His negative appraisal of the WWE Heavyweight Champion caused a stir among wrestling fans, but the popular podcast host and mortgage broker is not backing down. During the most recent episode of the Something to Wrestle podcast released on September 25, Thompson again took shots at Reigns before comparing him to Triple H. And while many fans may consider a comparison to the 14-time world champion and current WWE chief content officer to be a compliment, Conrad made it clear that he thinks neither man has made a significant cultural impact. Thompson actually began the conversation with his co-host, WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield, by saying he’s “not being critical of Roman today” before talking about how Reigns praised Cody Rhodes during a recent interview. Layfield noted that Reigns doesn’t do many interviews before he shifted to saying, “I know you’re the captain of the Roman Reigns Hater Club. Do you hate Cody, too?” “No, I don’t hate Roman. I think Roman’s terrific,” Thompson replied. “I’ve loved all six of his matches this year. He has banger after banger.” JBL then asked again about Rhodes. “No, I think Cody’s fine,” Conrad said, before adding, “I know you’re having fun, but just to clarify again, when I said Roman Reigns was overrated, I’m tired of people throwing stats at me and saying, ‘Oh, well, he’s main evented more WrestleManias than anybody.’ Yes, that is factually true. It’s also true that never have I ever seen a Roman Reigns T-shirt out in the wild. Not once.“ Thompson continued: “I’ve also never heard anybody say he’s on their Mount Rushmore [of wrestlers]. “But when I hear these goofs occasionally say he’s had a bigger impact on WWE than Hulk Hogan — No, he didn’t. He didn’t. I mean, that’s just that’s silly s**t.” These comments prompted JBL to again accuse his co-host of hating the OTC. “I don’t hate him! He’s done fabulous! But I’m saying he is Triple H. He’s Triple H of 2026,” Thompson said. “What’s wrong with that?” Layfield said. “Nothing, but nobody talks about Triple H. I’ve never seen a Triple H shirt in public, and nobody ever talks about Triple H as being on the Mount Rushmore,” Thompson said. “It doesn’t mean he’s not doing valuable work. Doesn’t mean he’s not a huge asset to WWE.” JBL then argued about Reigns’ stats and how he’s headlined big shows, which prompted Thompson to tell Layfield to “piss off.” Thompson said of Roman: “He’s doesn’t f**king work! What are you talking about?” He then went on to say that WWE doesn’t need Roman’s name on the card to sell tickets to events like WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble, because fans aren’t as interested in the individual lineups are they are about the WWE experience. Thompson also distinguished that WWE is different now from the days when The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin were draws, which is why those two men are often named by other stars as faces on the Mount Rushmore of wrestling.
