Cortland Martin joins Delbarton soccer team after high school recruitment

Summary

Delbarton head coach David Donovan recruited striker Cortland Martin, the son of Newton head boys soccer coach Brian Martin, after observing him with STA Soccer Academy. Despite the familial ties to Newton, Cortland Martin opted to enroll at the Morris Township campus following a formal recruitment process. Last season as a freshman, he recorded 14 goals, the highest total for any freshman in New Jersey. The transition required significant logistical adjustments, including a daily 6 a.m. commute from Green Township. Martin secured a starting role and contributed to the team's offense, including two goals in the Non-Public A North final against St. Benedict's Prep.
