Cowboys fans eye opening week results for 2026 playoff position

Summary

The 2026 NFL season begins this week with the Dallas Cowboys preparing for their divisional game against the New York Giants. Team supporters are tracking various outcomes across the league to identify matchups that could benefit the Dallas playoff path. Preferred results include a Washington Commanders victory over the Philadelphia Eagles to impact early division standings. Other desired outcomes include wins for the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, and Minnesota Vikings, as these teams are viewed as NFC underdogs compared to their respective opponents. Additionally, the Dallas front office holds a 2027 fourth-round draft pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers, leading to a general preference for Pittsburgh losses unless they face a major NFC rival. The upcoming week serves as a baseline for assessing league contenders before the schedule progresses.
