Cowboys quarterbacks Joe Milton and Sam Howell compete for backup role

At Dallas Cowboys training camp, Joe Milton and Sam Howell are contending for the backup quarterback position as the preseason begins. Both players have showcased their skills during practices in Oxnard but have not distinguished themselves significantly from one another. Their performances in the upcoming preseason games will be crucial in determining who secures the role behind Dak Prescott. Coaches believe the competition is tight, with evaluations set to ramp up during these games, particularly in the first matchup against the Seahawks. The situation is compounded by Howell's previous practice squad history and Milton's inconsistent performances in prior preseason outings.
