Cricket Australia approves private ownership for Melbourne Renegades franchise

Cricket Australia has authorized the sale of a 100% stake in the Melbourne Renegades, marking the first instance of private ownership in the Big Bash League. The team will operate under existing branding for the upcoming 2026-27 season while under caretaker management. Although new owners may propose changes to team names, colors, or identities, any such modifications require approval from Cricket Australia or relevant state associations. Chief executive Todd Greenberg previously suggested that widespread rebranding remains unlikely due to the established nature of the league's eight franchises. Ownership transition for the Melbourne Renegades is expected to be finalized ahead of the 2027-28 BBL and WBBL seasons.
