Cricket community remembers Nezam Hafiz twenty-five years after 9/11

Nezam Hafiz, a former Guyana Under-19 captain who represented the United States national cricket team, died in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Hafiz, who was 32 at the time, worked as a computer analyst on the 94th floor of the North Tower. Before his career in the United States, the batsman played first-class cricket for Guyana and competed against future international standout Brian Lara during a 1988 youth tournament. Following his death, members of the American Cricket Society organized numerous memorial matches in New York and Guyana to honor his contributions to the sport. A cricket bat used in one of these commemorative events remains part of the permanent collection at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York.
