The Chicago Cubs activated Clay Holmes from the 60-day injured list for Saturday's game against the Royals. Holmes, acquired from the Mets, aims to contribute immediately after being sidelined. To make room on the roster, Braxton Garrett has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Garrett, who underwent Tommy John surgery, was added to the active roster just a day prior but has yet to play in a major league game this season. Garrett is expected to compete for a rotation spot in 2027. The Cubs currently have one open spot on their 40-man roster as they finalize their roster moves.
