Cubs activate Matt Shaw from injured list, option Kevin Alcántara

The Chicago Cubs activated infielder/outfielder Matt Shaw from the 10-day injured list on August 28, 2026. Shaw had been sidelined since late June due to a wrist injury and also missed time in May with a back issue. In a corresponding roster move, the Cubs optioned outfielder Kevin Alcántara to Triple-A Iowa. During a recent rehab assignment at Iowa, Shaw went 4-for-10 with a double, showcasing versatility by playing shortstop. With starter Dansby Swanson out for several weeks, Shaw's return provides additional depth to the lineup.
