Cubs call up James Triantos, option Kevin Alcántara to Iowa

The Chicago Cubs have called up James Triantos from Triple-A Iowa as they begin a series in Pittsburgh. This marks Triantos' MLB debut after he was the Cubs’ second-round pick in 2021. In 85 games at Iowa this season, he batted.306 with seven home runs and 18 stolen bases. To create space on the 26-man roster, outfielder Kevin Alcántara has been optioned to Iowa, indicating that Matt Shaw’s return is not imminent, as Triantos can fill similar positional needs. Triantos is expected to serve as a right-handed bat off the bench and fill various roles on the roster.
