Cubs considered top candidate for Tarik Skubal in free agency

Tarik Skubal, a free-agent starting pitcher, is generating buzz as the offseason approaches. Former first baseman Anthony Rizzo labeled the Chicago Cubs as the most 'obvious fit' for Skubal on his podcast, citing their potential interest due to his impressive 2026 season. The Cubs recently exited the playoffs after being swept by the San Diego Padres, which heightens their need for adding pitching talent. Skubal, who posted a 2.72 ERA and 186 strikeouts over 158.2 innings, is expected to attract significant interest from multiple teams this offseason, including the Red Sox and Dodgers. Free agency opens shortly after the World Series concludes, allowing players to sign with new teams soon thereafter.
