Cubs update on pitching staff ahead of MLB trade deadline

Summary

The Chicago Cubs are preparing for potential upgrades to their pitching staff as the MLB trade deadline approaches on August 1. Justin Steele, who has missed the entire season after surgery, is progressing in his recovery and recently thrown off flat ground. The team's manager Craig Counsell stated that they are mindful of Steele's injury history and will be cautious with his return. Meanwhile, Edward Cabrera is making rehabilitation starts with Triple-A Iowa, while Daniel Palencia is set to throw a live batting practice session. The Cubs are also dealing with injuries, including Gavin Hollowell's shoulder inflammation, which has prompted the call-up of Antoine Kelly for his MLB debut.
