Cyclists honor Major Taylor at Worcester hill challenge on July 26

More than 90 cyclists participated in the annual George Street Bike challenge in Worcester on July 26, honoring Marshall “Major” Taylor, the first Black American world cycling champion. Riders climbed the steep incline while many wore jerseys featuring Taylor’s image. The event, now in its 24th year, celebrated Taylor's legacy, who faced racial discrimination during his career. Ayre Stephenson-Sweeney recorded the fastest time of 22.94 seconds in perfect weather, which differed from last year's rainy conditions. Participants praised Taylor's perseverance and his significance in the sport outside the race itself.
