Dallas Cowboys waive quarterback Joe Milton III after preseason

The Dallas Cowboys waived quarterback Joe Milton III on Monday following the conclusion of the NFL preseason. The team moved to part ways with the former Tennessee player after claiming running back Emari Demercado off waivers. Milton III was originally selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft and was traded to the Cowboys in April 2025. During his collegiate career at Tennessee, he recorded 4,159 passing yards with 32 touchdowns over 29 appearances. If he clears waivers, he remains eligible to join the Dallas practice squad. The Cowboys are scheduled to open their regular season against the New York Giants on September 13 at MetLife Stadium.
