Dame Kelly Holmes receives Freedom of the City of London

Dame Kelly Holmes has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London at a ceremony attended by the Lady Mayor. The double Olympic champion, who won gold in the 800m and 1500m events at the 2004 Athens Olympics, expressed her honor and emphasized the importance of visibility and inclusion. After coming out as gay in 2022, she highlighted her journey toward self-acceptance and connection with others. Alderman Tim Hailes commended her resilience and authenticity, recognizing her contributions both in sport and to society at large.
