Dana White dismisses MVP-PFL merger, calls them not competition

The deal, announced Thursday, will eventually have PFL become MVP MMA, with multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans telling MMA Fighting that it is likely to happen in January. Ahead of UFC Belgrade, the UFC CEO was asked about the deal, and joked around at first by circling back to one of his greatest hits. “I don’t know anything about what they’re doing,” White told The Mac Life. “It probably makes sense. When shit isn’t working for anybody, we should probably get together. Let’s take two organizations that don’t sell tickets and nobody watches and let’s merge them together and make a bigger company that we won’t sell tickets to and that nobody will watch.” MVP had a very successful debut in the MMA world with their Netflix card this past May, headlined by Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano, drawing more viewership than UFC White House, as well as UFC 329, which featured the return of Conor McGregor. The UFC is far and away the biggest combat sports promotion on the planet, and while MVP and PFL coming together certainly creates another viable option for fighters to compete, White isn’t concerned whatsoever about the gap between the companies closing in any significant way. “Listen, I said this 100 times, and I’m just f*cking around… I don’t look at any of those guys as our competition,” White said. “We’re in a whole other f*cking stratosphere now. I mean, I’m competing with all the majors. “Those guys aren’t my competition. So good luck to them all. I wish them all the best.”
