"Leave it to Danhausen to be the adult in the room. Footage from vlogger Matt Kempke showed wrestling’s comedic demon playing peacemaker between Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk and Cody Rhodes at a WWE live event Saturday in Stockton, California. After Punk and Rhodes defeated Gunther and Sami Zayn, the two argued over the WWE title. Before things turned physical, Danhausen, wearing a towel on his head and around his waist, separated the two and had words with both men before raising their hands in victory. The scene mirrored a live event moment in December 2024, when Punk saved Damian Priest from a 2-on-1 attack while wearing only a towel and shower cap. On Saturday, Danhausen beat The Miz earlier in the night. He presumably came from the shower to calm down the babyfaces who were having trouble getting along. During the match, Rhodes and Punk took turns playing to the crowd. Fans in Stockton seemed firmly behind Punk, while giving Rhodes a mixed reaction. Tensions escalated as the match wore on, especially as Punk copied some of Rhodes’ offense. The two took turns tagging each other in by chopping the other one in the chest. Later on, Punk teased walking out on Rhodes following a chop from Gunther that sounded like a shotgun had gone off. In the end, Rhodes hit Gunther with Cross Rhodes before planting Zayn with the move, allowing Punk to finish Zayn with the GTS. Last weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Rhodes was upset after Punk appeared to hit him in the face with the championship belt by accident while swinging it over his shoulder. That led to a backstage argument after the show. The two had another tense face-off on Sunday in New York during a SummerSlam kickoff event, and again on Friday during a promo segment on SmackDown. Punk defends the Undisputed WWE Championship against Rhodes at SummerSlam, which takes place August 1 and 2 in Minneapolis.
