Daniil Medvedev advances to second week of US Open at Flushing Meadows

Summary

Daniil Medvedev secured a spot in the second week of the US Open on September 4, 2026, following a third-round victory against Arthur Rinderknech. The 2021 champion has not dropped a set during the tournament and has faced only one service break throughout his first three matches. This performance marks a notable shift for the Russian, who struggled with form and coaching changes earlier this season after a difficult finish to 2025. While Medvedev entered the event with limited expectations from observers, he has reached the round of 16 without significant disruption. He previously indicated a need to regain his composure on court, and his recent play in New York suggests a return to more consistent results on the hard-court circuit.
