Daycare director pleads guilty to embezzling funds for WWE events

A former daycare worker who was accused of stealing millions in tuition payments, which she allegedly used for WWE tickets and expensive vacations, pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges in federal court on Thursday. Murielle Misczak, 43, was arrested in March and initially pleaded not guilty. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York said in a press release that Misczak has now pleaded guilty and has been ordered to pay over $2.8 million in restitution. She also faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison when sentenced. In 2020, Misczak was promoted to director of the German-language immersion daycare in Brooklyn, New York, after previously serving as program coordinator beginning in 2013. Prosecutors said she began embezzling the money—to the amount of $2.75 million—from January 2022 to October 2025. According to a statement from federal officials at the time of her arrest, Misczak spent over $350,000 of the stolen funds on tickets to professional wrestling events. The New York Times reported that an anonymous source familiar with the case said she treated her three children to outings at WWE events like Monday Night Raw and paid top dollar for deluxe packages to meet wrestling stars. “The defendant took advantage of her access to bank accounts for the Daycare to steal millions in tuition payments in order to line her own pockets and fund trips to World Wrestling Entertainment events among other personal expenses,” Joseph Nocella, Jr., United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said in a statement released on Thursday. Nocella continued: “Our Office will continue to vigorously prosecute individuals like the defendant who abuse positions of trust and seek to enrich themselves at the expense of services for children.” James C. Barnacle, Jr., Assistant Director in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York Field Office (FBI), added in the same press release: “Murielle Misczak’s selfish greed deprived a local daycare of nearly three million dollars in critical funding intended for services to support the development and care of our communities’ children. The FBI continues to pull back the curtain on fraudsters seeking to steal from innocent New Yorkers, regardless of their cover up attempts.” Thursday’s press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office did not indicate when Misczak will be in court for sentencing.
