Denver Broncos cut rookie tight end Justin Joly after preseason

The Denver Broncos released rookie tight end Justin Joly as the organization finalized its 53-man roster on Sunday. General manager George Paton characterized the decision as a difficult move necessitated by roster depth and a tight competition at the position. Joly, a fifth-round draft selection, missed a portion of the offseason and was considered raw by team management. He recorded an 88-yard touchdown catch during the final preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. The team chose to retain seventh-round pick Dallen Bentley over Joly, who is currently subject to waiver claims.
