Derby County owner David Clowes sustains investment following aborted ownership takeover

Derby County owner David Clowes remains committed to financing the Championship club after a proposed sale to Saudi government official Turki Al-Sheikh collapsed in August. Although the deal had received sanctioning from the Independent Football Regulator and the English Football League, Al-Sheikh withdrew his interest one hour before the scheduled completion. CEO Stephen Pearce stated the uncertainty forced the club into a temporary holding pattern during the summer transfer window. Despite the disruption, Clowes continued to fund player acquisitions, including deals for Bobby Clark, Sam Szmodics, and Alex Mowatt, while the takeover was still under consideration. Following the withdrawal, Clowes took the club off the market and shifted focus to strengthening the squad, with recent additions such as David Ozoh and Eiran Cashin. Pearce maintained that the club remains determined to pursue Premier League promotion this season.
