Detroit Free Press launches new flagship sports talk show

The Detroit Free Press debuted the Freep Sports Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Hosted by columnist Shawn Windsor and staffer Andrew Birkle, the program serves as the publication's flagship sports broadcast. The show plans to cover the four major Detroit professional sports teams alongside Michigan and Michigan State athletics. In the premiere episode, the hosts discussed the finish of the Michigan versus Western Michigan game and the quarterback situation at Michigan. The episode also featured an interview with Dave Birkett, who previewed the 2026 Detroit Lions season, including team outlooks and personnel questions regarding Brad Holmes, Terrion Arnold, and Isaac TeSlaa. New episodes are scheduled to release three times per week, with additional live broadcasts planned following every Lions game.
