Detroit Lions consider signing free agent quarterback Joe Milton III

Summary

The Detroit Lions are evaluating their quarterback depth after the Dallas Cowboys released Joe Milton III on Monday, September 1. Detroit currently rosters Joshua Dobbs as the primary backup to starter Jared Goff, with undrafted rookie Luke Altmyer on the practice squad. Milton, a 26-year-old signal-caller, became a free agent following his sudden departure from Dallas. In two professional seasons, he has completed 37-of-53 pass attempts for 424 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. While Goff remains the team's established starter with a contract extending through 2028, adding Milton could provide the Lions with a younger developmental option. The team has not announced any formal plans to sign the quarterback as of Tuesday, September 2.
