Detroit Lions place Brian Branch on reserve PUP list for season start

The Detroit Lions will be without safety Brian Branch for at least the first four games of the 2026 season. The team moved the defensive back to the reserve/physically unable to perform list after he spent training camp recovering from a torn Achilles. This designation prevents Branch from appearing in games against the New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, and Carolina Panthers. He joins Kerby Joseph on the PUP list, leaving Detroit to open the regular season without its two starting safeties. While the team remains hopeful for his recovery, his return status remains dependent on his physical progression after the initial four-week period. The roster move follows Detroit's 25-16 preseason victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday.
