Detroit Lions place safety Kerby Joseph on reserve PUP list

The Detroit Lions will begin the 2026 season without safety Kerby Joseph after placing him on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. The designation forces the defensive back to miss at least the first four games of the regular season due to a degenerative knee condition. Joseph previously dealt with the injury throughout the offseason and spent training camp on the PUP list. He is now ruled out for contests against the New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, and Carolina Panthers. The earliest he can return to the active roster is for the team's Week 5 game against the Arizona Cardinals. Detroit management has opted for a cautious approach to the veteran's recovery rather than rushing him back to the field.
