Detroit Lions prepare for opening game against New Orleans Saints

Summary

The Detroit Lions begin their 2026 NFL season this Sunday with a matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Under head coach Dan Campbell, the team looks to establish a new identity following a difficult 2025 campaign. First-year offensive coordinator Drew Petzing will oversee a unit featuring key players Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Penei Sewell. The defense, led by Aidan Hutchinson and Jack Campbell, faces the challenge of managing a patchwork secondary without Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch, who remain on the PUP list. Success for Detroit hinges on effective rushing production from Gibbs and consistent pass protection for Goff. The team aims to utilize its wide array of skill position players to regain the form displayed during the 2024 season.
