Detroit Lions prepare to open 2026 season against New Orleans Saints

The Detroit Lions head to Caesars Superdome to face the New Orleans Saints as the 2026 NFL season begins. Statistical projections highlight the matchup between the Lions' passing attack, led by Jared Goff, and the Saints' defensive unit. Goff enters the season after a high-efficiency performance in 2025 despite significant pressure and a high sack count. The Lions have implemented a revamped offensive line with several new starters and position changes, leaving questions regarding early-season cohesion. The Saints improved their defensive metrics significantly during the latter half of the 2025 campaign, showing particular strength in passer rating and success rates. These units will meet on the field to determine the offensive and defensive advantages in the opening matchup of the year.
